
Government of Canada contributing $100M for Merit Protein plant in Winnipeg, MB

Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Merit Functional Foods Corp. plans to have a new 94,000-square-foot production plant at Winnipeg’s Centreport running by the end of the year. This plant will be the first facility in the world with the capability to produce food-grade canola protein ready and safe for human consumption.

On June 22, 2020, Government of Canada and Merit have announced a federal financing of close to $100 million to support this plant, scheduled to be fully operational in December 2020. It will create 80 new jobs and will help to establish the region as a world-leading agriculture and processing hub.
Plant-based proteins are more and more in demand.
