NEXT Canada : Agri FoodTech ventures in 2020 programs

NEXT Canada recently revealed the 80 entrepreneurs selected for the 2020 cohorts : NEXT 36, NEXT Founders, NEXT AI (from Toronto and Montreal).

Founded in 2010 by a group of business leaders and academics, NEXT Canada is a national, non-profit organization that develops exceptional talent to create world-class ventures and propel technology adoption. NEXT Canada is recognized today as a leader in the delivery of cutting-edge programming designed to foster lifelong entrepreneurship.

NEXT Canada programs :

• NEXT 36 is dedicated for students or recent grads with an idea or a pre-existing early stage startup.
• NEXT AI identify talented idea or early-stage teams with ambitious solutions and leverage Canada’s leadership position in AI to provide them with the capital, mentorship, education and network to disrupt industries.
• NEXT Founders accelerates the growth of promising entrepreneurs by providing mentorship, access to capital, and unparalleled entrepreneurial education to scale their business into a world class venture.

FoodTech entrepreneurs in NEXT Canada 2020 programs

Among the 80 projects and ventures selected, 9 are Agri and FoodTech oriented. At FoodTech Canada, we wanted to share these entrepreneurs that are looking in innovative ways to improve the Food industry… from the farm to the fork.

FeedmÏ, is a food app for the “young and hungry” that focuses on creating the best social experiences around food via social group ordering, messaging, seamless bill-splitting and easy coordination.

IntelliCulture

Co-founders: Cole Powers, Ramin Shaikhi
Program: NEXT 36
Location : Waterloo, ON
IntelliCulture provides farms with the tools to monitor their equipment and to be able to make meaningful business decisions from that data. From their web platform, farmers can identify operational inefficiencies, and get the data needed to make more informed management decisions.

KitchCo

KitchCo is a low cost solution for chefs looking to commercialize their skills by helping them start their virtual restaurant.

Blue Lion Labs

Co-founders: Jason Deglint, Katie Thomas
Program: NEXT AI – Toronto
Location: Waterloo, ON
Blue Lion Labs believes everyone deserves to know what is in their water. They are developing an AI system to rapidly identify microorganisms in water helping managers to better safeguard water resources.

Tastet

Location: Montreal, QC
Tastet is is the go-to reference for anyone looking for restaurants, bars and cafés in Montreal with over 2M readers per year. To best serve their ambition to match the right consumer with the right establishment at all times and in all the top foodie cities of the world, they are building an AI-powered recommendation engine.

Chinova Bioworks

Chinova Bioworks has developed a natural preservative extracted from white button mushrooms for use in food and beverage products.

Kabo Fresh Dog Food works with pet food nutritionists and vets to deliver human-grade, gently cooked fresh dog food right to your doorstep every month.

NXT Farm

NXT Farm provides industry-first algorithms for processing satellite imagery which help a farmer optimize their inputs and maximize their yields.

TakuLabs Ltd.

TakuLabs is moving retail chain stores to the cloud. TAKU is the only retail platform for many industries such as Food & Grocery, that allows multi-location merchants to sell offline and online seamlessly with a single view of data across their entire business.

HUEX

HUEX is building AiDA, a voice-enabled conversational AI to enable food chains and brands to better serve their customers in LIVE business environments and assist in tasks such as order taking, inquiries or requests all in a human-like manner to create an unparalleled guest experience.
